Caring for Your Collectible Ornaments

While our hand-made and hand-decorated ornaments are well-constructed, they are subject to breakage or damage if mishandled or improperly cared for. In order to best preserve your collectible Treasures by Mann ornaments and maintain their beauty, our experts suggest the following procedures: |

To clean your ornaments, a fine brush (e.g., a makeup brush or feather duster) is best. We recommend that you avoid using either water or chemical cleaners. | |

Remove the hanging hooks before storing your ornaments to avoid snagging and scratching them. | |

Wrap your ornament in acid-free tissue sold at craft stores, in an acid-free microwave paper towel like that sold under the Bounty brand or in cotton batting. | |

Professionals recommend that ornaments are best stored in plastic storage containers with trays and dividers (e.g. Rubbermaid). These containers do a better job of keeping out moisture and also are acid-free unlike most cardboards. | |

If you choose to pack your ornaments in cardboard boxes, choose stronger containers with lids to avoid breakage and make sure the ornaments are wrapped to protect them against the acidic cardboard. |

Preferably store the ornaments in an area where they will not be subject to direct heat, humidity and moisture. A cool, dry place is best. | |

Ideally, store your ornaments in an area which has a constant temperature. If this is not possible, store the ornaments where they will not be subject to extreme temperature variations. For this reason, an attic or basement is generally not the best choice. | |

We also recommend that you include a moisture-absorbing packet called a “dessicant” in the storage box. These are typically available at craft stores. | |
